at the University of Tasmania

A Lecturer suspecting that John, one of his students, may have a learning disability, contacted the Disability Adviser for advice. Further discussions between John and his Lecturer took place with the outcome being that John was then referred to the Disability Adviser. At the interview, the Disability Adviser explained to John the potential benefits to be gained in undertaking a learning disability assessment and what the process entailed. Having chosen to proceed with this course of action, John was then referred for assessment. The written report outlining the results of John’s assessment identified his learning strengths as well as deficiencies.

The Disability Adviser subsequently arranged for John:

1. access to assistive technology via the SEAL resource room

2. learning strategies

The Disability Adviser then produced an advocacy memorandum for academic staff identifying John’s learning requirements and assessment recommendations.
